David May, a two-time Grammy-winning producer and longtime music executive, has died at 68. A notice confirmed that May died April 13 in Nashville, where he had been living after decades of work across recorded music, concert films, and visual media.
May’s career included senior roles with Warner Records and Rhino Entertainment, where he helped oversee projects tied to video releases, archival music, mastering, production, and artist catalog work. His credits connected him to major names across pop, rock, and classic music, including Madonna, Alanis Morissette, Metallica, Fleetwood Mac, Eric Clapton, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Green Day, and the Eagles.
He won Grammy Awards in the music film category for Alanis Morissette’s Jagged Little Pill, Live and Madonna’s The Confessions Tour. He was also nominated for Madonna’s I’m Going to Tell You a Secret.
May’s work reflected a career spent largely behind the scenes, helping shape how major performances and catalog projects reached audiences beyond the stage and studio.
