A feature documentary on acclaimed actor, activist and Rock ‘N’ Roll icon Steven Van Zandt will premiere on HBO and be available to stream on Max on June 22.
Stevie Van Zandt: Disciple, directed by Bill Teck, debuts on HBO at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
Featuring a wealth of never-before-seen footage, the film traces Van Zandt’s career as a producer, musician, songwriter, activist, actor, and more, from the clubs of Asbury Park, New Jersey, to arenas and stadiums, to the Bada Bing Club and the Underground Garage.
It includes exclusive interviews with Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney, David Chase, Eddie Vedder, Bono, Joan Jett and Peter Gabriel, among others.
The film tells the story of the galvanizing role Van Zandt played in uniting 50 of the biggest names in music in 1985, across rock, hip hop, reggae, Latin, and soul genres, to create the history-altering “Sun City” track in protest of Apartheid South Africa.
The documentary also highlights his acclaimed on-screen role as the legendary Silvio Dante in the Emmy-winning HBO Original series, “The Sopranos.”
The documentary will have its world premiere at the 2024 Tribeca Festival.
